About the construction of the Fellowship Hall: Early in 1991 we began discussion about the possivility of neeeding more space for class rooms and fellowships. We had a need for some larger class rooms and for a space where we could set more than 65 people without having to go down the hall from the from our existing fellowship hall at that time. We decided to start saving for a new building. Also, if we wanted to pursue a new mortgage, we were asked by the Home Mission Board to pay off the remaining amount that we still owed on the original building . As a church we were able to pay off our first mortgage in May of 1991 and this cleared the way for the Home Mission Board to consider a new mortgage of $120,000.00 to build a 5,000 foot building. We were granted the loan and soon it was full steam ahead making preparations for the new building. We started building in 1992. That spring we paid contractors to complete the foundation. We needed to have the 5,000 foot slab ready by June when building would begin. The Lord sent us a good group of men from the Buckeye Builders and we were able to raise the building just under one week. We did the framing, completed the outside with windows, siding, and roofing in just under one week. We had help from many volunteers from our own church as well as men and women from around the state. We also had a groups that came from Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas to help us complete the shell of the building. After the rush of the first week of the build, the rest of the finish work was up to all the volunteers from our own body. Slowly but surely we worked on the building and in early January, 1993 we were able to get the ok from the city that the building was ready for occupancy. Now here we are, 18 1/2 years later we are debt free. May God continue to bless His work as it is carried on through His people here at Alum Creek. Darrell Davis |
